I used to run an online translation service business, AdWords used to be one of my main sources of traffic until they suspended my account. After working several years as a translator for a government contractor, I decided that I wanted to start my own online translation business. A large part of my revenue stream was generated with Google AdWords.

For a while, it was going great. Eventually I was making over $4,000 a month just from ad revenue on my website. As a result, I was able to quit my job and work from home and spend more time with my family. However, one day I received the following e-mail from Google:

“We have deactivated your Google AdWords account … your account block is final, we have blocked payment on your corresponding balance.” This was devastating news. I tried to contact them but they wouldn’t give me a direct or concrete answer. Supposedly I was using the ads incorrectly and they suspected that I was generating fraudulent clicks on the ads.

I tried to appeal their decision but it was no use. The decision was final and I had to figure out what I was going to do to replace this income or I would have to go back to my job if it is still available.

It is very important to read Google’s rules and regulations with regards to how ads are placed on your site. You should also know that Google can change those rules at any time. I feel that I was compliant with their rules but in the end, it didn’t matter.

I have pretty much lost everything since Google blocked me from AdWords. However, I have been studying a lot and learning as much as I can about website SEO, or search engine optimization. It is certainly time consuming, but it appears that it is starting to work as my website is increasing in rankings and more customers are purchasing my services. Although it is still difficult to generate the same amount of revenue that Google AdWords produced.

My advice is to tread very carefully with Google AdWords. It can be very effective in the short run, however you just don’t know if you can count on it for the long run. This much uncertainty with a business partner or affiliate is just no way to do business.

It is better to invest your time in learning proper SEO skills and taking the time to implement these techniques.
